Spring Lip Colors That Don’t Pull Orange on Me

Spring Lip Colors That Don’t Pull Orange on Me

Editor’s note from Rebecca: my husband decided to edit and publish this post while our toddler was keeping me busy, so if it feels different, that’s why. Please enjoy husband commentary!

Spring lip recommendations usually don’t work well for me. I want something rosy, berry, mauve, or plum, but so many end up peach, coral, or straight-up orange. Those shades can look great on other people, and sometimes that is the look I want, but in the spring, I want shades that evoke the bright colors of blooming flowers. I want something that feels like springtime without going orange. I’ve pulled together my five best lip products that I’ve been reaching for constantly as we head into spring. In this post, all links are affiliate links (thank you for your support!), but all opinions are my own.

Left to right: Eadem Le Chouchou Lip Softening Balm in Bissap Glaze, Nars Afterglow Lip Oil in Wonderous 520, Westman Atelier Hydro Balm Tinted Lipstick in Onyx, MAC Lustreglass Lipstick in Succumb to Plum, Nabla Beyond Jelly Sheer Lipstick in Nocturna

Eadem Le Chouchou Lip Softening Balm in Bissap Glaze – This balm is definitely on the sheer side of my recommendations, but it still looks like a glossy lipstick, not like a clear lip balm. On me, it turns into the prettiest rosy-brown berry. It has just enough pink and berry in it to still look fresh and springy without going orange. I’ve written about this balm so many times because I really do love it. The formula feels nourishing, comfortable, and makes my lips look and feel better every time I put it on.

Nars Afterglow Lip Oil in Wonderous 520 – This one is shinier, sheerer, and more slippery than the EADEM, which makes sense because it is a lip oil instead of a balm. On me, this is the most natural-looking shade in the group and reads like a true cool-toned pink. It has that my-lips-but-better effect. With this oil, my lips just look smoother, fresher, and a just little more hydrated. It is not especially long-lasting or nourishing, but has a nice feel and gives the prettiest fresh pink without being too warm.

Westman Atelier Hydro Balm Tinted Lipstick in Onyx – Clinique Black Honey is often touted as the gold standard for a fancy, natural looking, cherry lipstick, but it has never worked for my olive undertones. Westman Atlelier Onyx actually delivers on this for me. This formulation gives that cool purple-brown cherry effect that I’m looking for. It is deeper and moodier than the first two, but sheer enough that it still feels appropriate for every-day casual wear. It is moisturizing, a little minty, and easy enough to apply without a mirror.

MAC Lustreglass Lipstick in Succumb to Plum – This is the most highly pigmented and matte product of my recommendations. If you want something more like a traditional lipstick, this is the product you should buy. The color is a deep, highly saturated, cool-toned plum. It is just so rich and pretty. It is definitely the boldest option in this group, but the formula still has enough slip that it feels easier and less fussy than a proper dark matte lipstick. This is not a stereotypical spring lip color, but if you want something deeper, more mysterious, and a little more interesting, this is a good choice.

Nabla Beyond Jelly Sheer Lipstick in Nocturna – If you like the idea of Succumb to Plum, but you find it just a bit too daring for spring, this is an amazing choice. Nocturna has that same cool-toned berry-plum base, but is softer and less of a statement. The formula is lightweight, moisturizing, and easy to throw on. It achieves that deeper, cool berry look without fully committing to a dark plum lip. It does have a slight mint scent, but other than that, I’ve been really happy with the formula and how easy it is to wear.

Testing Versed Makeup: Skin Tint, Bronzer, Blush, and Lip Serum Review

I’ve been slowly working my way through some Versed products and wanted to share my thoughts now that I’ve tested them over multiple weeks. I really appreciate how accessible the brand is, both in price point and availability, even though these products didn’t fully work for me. Let me know if you’d like me to review any more brands like this or have other requests! As always, all links are affiliate links (thank you for your support!), but all opinions are my own.

Skin Solution Multi-Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 in shade 2N and 4W – The application is super quick and easy since the formula spreads evenly and the shade 4W is one of the best matches I’ve found in a mineral sunscreen-based tint in awhile. 2N was way too light for me, so if you’re a similar shade, I would keep that in mind. In thin layers, this gave me a really natural, lightweight finish that reminds me of the Armani Skin Tint. It’s just enough to even out my skin tone without looking like makeup. The main issue is that if I apply even a little too much, it quickly looks both oddly wet and simultaneously cakey and dry in certain spots. The Armani Skin Tint (and others I’m testing) never have this issue. It can also feel a bit drying with a heavier application. That said, when I keep it sheer, it wears impressively well throughout the day. After several full-day tests, I was honestly surprised by how fresh it still looked in the evening, as long as I hadn’t over-applied. Given how finicky this is, it’s not my first choice, but it’s definitely worth trying if you’re looking for an SPF skin tint that you can throw on in the morning in a light layer. Something like the Ciele tint (which I really love) is more than twice the price, and the Versed comes in a solid number of shades.

Warm Dimension Bronzer Stick in August – The shade I tried is very wearable for my olive undertones. I appreciate that it’s warm without leaning too orange. The formula has a decent color payoff, but I needed to build it up quite a bit to get the level of pigment I wanted. It also sets more quickly than the About Face bronzer stick I’ve been reaching for lately, which means I have to blend pretty quickly or it can start to look patchy. Once I take the time to blend it in, the finish is seamless and looks really nice. It’s not my favorite bronzer formula overall, but I think it’s a solid option if you like a cream stick that sets down and doesn’t stay overly dewy. The About Face stick is only $4 more so I’d recommend that one personally. A side note – the bronzer fell out of the tube, and I had to smush it back in which is why the container looks so messy.

Bronzer in August, Blush in Deco and Cozy, Lip Serum in Bake

Shade Swipe Blush Stick in Cozy and Deco – The blush formula glides on easily and blends out without much effort, but I do notice some patchiness depending on the base I’m wearing underneath. It can be built up or sheered out, but I find they take a little extra blending if you build them up too much. Cozy is a nice, classic winter-berry tone I normally love as we head into the fall months. That said, I actually ended up preferring the shade Deco, which is a bright pink. Even though I usually gravitate toward berry shades, Deco ends up being more flattering on me and looks a bit fresher once applied. Similar to the bronzer, this is just a little more work than I want vs some of my other favorite cream blushes, but out of the complexion products, these are definitely my favorites and what I’ve used the most. The Merit blushes are double the price, but I much prefer that formula.

Soft Gloss Tinted Lip Serum in Bake – This was the standout of everything I tried. It feels like a hybrid between a lip gloss and a balm in stick form so it’s super moisturizing with a glossy, slightly sheer finish. The shade Baked is a really flattering neutral that works for everyday wear. It looks a bit warm in the swatch but it’s sheer enough that it works really well mixed with my natural lip color. I love that I can swipe it on without a mirror, and it still looks great. It does have a light minty tingle, which I don’t mind, and I think it adds a nice freshness. The closest comparison I can make is the Hourglass Glossy Balm, but this is much more affordable while still delivering a similar feel and look.

Bright Blushes & Lip Picks for Olive Skin for Summer

Summer is the perfect time to lean into bright l blushes and lip products—especially if you have olive skin like mine that really shines with bright pinks. I’ve been trying out shades that feel summery, flattering, and easy to wear, and these have stood out as the ones I keep reaching for. Whether you’re heading out for a sunny day or just want something cheerful and effortless, these are my current go-to blushes and lip products for the season. In this post, all links are affiliate links (thank you for your support!), but all opinions are my own.

Swatches are in order from left to right as listed below

Rhode Pocket Blush in Juice Box – This is one of my favorite stick blush formulas because it’s incredibly easy to apply and blend smoothly, whether I use a brush, a sponge, or my fingers. Juice Box is a bright hot pink shade that instantly brightens up my face and has impressively good lasting power. The creamy texture blends out seamlessly without getting patchy or losing its vibrant color throughout the day. I always find myself reaching for it, especially when I need a quick, foolproof pop of color on busy mornings.

Haus Labs Blush in Pomelo Peach – This formula is beautifully blurring and blends effortlessly into the skin. It has a satin matte finish that’s neither flat nor drying, giving a healthy, natural look. What makes Pomelo Peach special is that it’s one of the few peach blushes I’ve found that has enough pink in it to avoid turning too orange on me. No matter how much I build it up, it stays flattering without ever resembling cheeto dust. It’s quickly become my go-to (honestly, my only) peachy blush since it’s still definitely peach but not overly so.

MAC Glow Play Blush in Heat Index – This formula has become a staple for finishing off my cheek looks because it provides a remarkable blurring effect that pulls any makeup look together. I love the texture of these blushes – they feel like a hybrid between cream and powder, offering the longevity of a powder and the glow and dewiness of a cream. Heat Index is a vibrant pink that’s perfect for spring and summer, and it’s super bright without being overwhelming or overly intense (even though it looks like it would be).

Queen Musia Skincare Supercharged Tinted Balm in 2005 –2005 is a perfect cherry pink that isn’t too bright and definitely won’t go orange. Because it’s lightly tinted, this is incredibly easy to wear and throw on without a mirror. The formula is hydrating and nourishing without being too shiny. It also wore way longer than I expected given the formula – I wore it again yesterday for this review and kept thinking how great it was that it was still going on my lips. This is one of those products I just want to wear all the time, and I’ve been super impressed with it. Plus, the packaging is really cute too.

Bloomeffects Tulipscreen™ Hydrating Lip Oil SPF 40+ in Fruit Punch – This lip oil is significantly more pigmented than the Queen Musia balm, so I suggest applying with a mirror or a very light hand. I love that it’s SPF 40+, making it perfect for the sunnier months when I’m spending more time outside. The formula feels incredibly hydrating without being heavy or overly glossy, and it stains the lips with that “I’ve just eaten a popsicle” look that you can easily throw a clear lip balm over. Fruit Punch is a vibrant, bright cherry shade that’s super fun for the summer, and like everything else in this post, doesn’t go orange on me.
