June 2022 FITNESS AND LIFESTYLE FAVORITES

I’m so excited to share my fitness and lifestyle favorites now already more than a week into July. I spend most of my time outside of work and testing beauty products training for powerlifting competitions (see my last competition recap here) and am very into fitness and health. As always, thank you so much for being here, and it would mean so much to me if you subscribe here or on Instagram @liftbakelove for new posts!

A7 Bar Grip Crops – I work out in a commercial gym that doesn’t allow chalk, so you’ll always find me wearing a bar grip shirt. I’ve written about the A7 Bar Grip shirts and tanks before, but I specifically have been loving the women’s crops. A7 Bar Grips have a silicone grip on the back that is designed to help with slippery commercial benches and bars, including helping you stick to the bench during bench press and anchoring the barbell to your back when squatting. Now that it’s getting much hotter, the crops have been amazing. They fit so well (I wear a small) and are the perfect length. I appreciate that they also come in lots of fun patterns and colors!

Buff Chick Supplements Intra – I have been working out so hard now that I’m prepping for the WA States Powerlifting Competition, and this has made such a huge difference. This basically super levels up the water I drink during a workout and helps with recovery on my days off. Both flavors are delicious, but I prefer the fruit punch. I’m so glad I picked this up! More info on Intra from the Buff Chick site: “12 grams of BCAAs (2:1:1 of 6g leucine : 3 g isoleucine : 3g valine), our formula supports muscle building while reducing the perception of fatigue and exercise-induced muscle soreness. Our combination of electrolytes and ElevATP® supports strength and power output while promoting optimal electrolyte balance.”

Wearing the Black Bossy Legacy Shorts

Buffbunny Legacy Shorts – I honestly can’t imagine wearing any other 4″ shorts except for these. They’re made with Nubre fabric – the softest, most buttery fabric of all time (really). They don’t roll or move while I’m working out, and the mediums (a size up from my BuffBunny legging size) are perfect for me. Every time I wear other shorts, I miss how I feel in the Legacy Shorts. The back has a cool butterfly seam detail that is such a nice touch. Unlike most of BuffBunny’s items, there are still plenty of colors left in these shorts if you’re interested in grabbing a pair!

Caramel Brownie Built Bars – I’m still shocked at how good these are considering the macros (these have 17g of protein for 130 calories!). II have been loving microwaving them for 15 seconds, and they turn into a gooey cake-like dessert that I wouldn’t know is a protein bar if it was a blinded taste test. Even though I own a ton of flavors now, these have been my favorite lately because they are so close to a “real” brownie. There’s almost always a 20% off code going around and free shipping which helps with how expensive they are. That said, at about $1.8 a bar, they’re still less expensive than other bars like Quest ($2.25 a bar plus shipping from their website) and taste way better to me, so I’m really excited to have found these.

May 2022 FITNESS AND LIFESTYLE FAVORITES

I’m so excited to share my fitness and lifestyle favorites now that it’s almost June somehow, and that I loved especially during May. I spend most of my time outside of work and testing beauty products training for powerlifting competitions (see my last competition recap here) and am very into fitness and health. As always, thank you so much for being here, and it would mean so much to me if you subscribe here or on Instagram @liftbakelove for new posts!

HoldOn Compostable Bags (*gifted) – HoldOn bags are heavy duty, plant-based, compostable bags. We are in the process of moving to a new house where we are required to compost as much as possible (which we should’ve been doing anyway), so I was so excited to get these. I love that we can still use trash bags, sandwich bags, and gallon bags like we normally do and not worry about contributing to additional plastic waste. And they work just as well as the plastic version, which is something I would have been worried about. Honestly this wasn’t even something I was thinking about investing in, but I’m so happy we have them!

A7 Bar Grip Tank (*gifted) – This tank is so incredibly comfortable and functional, and I’m beyond excited that I have it now that it’s getting so warm. I love that the bar grip material on the back that I use for bench and low bar squats (it helps you stick to the bench or a bar stick to you) is now on a tank. I get super overheated in the gym, especially in the Spring and Summer, so this has been perfect. It is so worth it, and I can’t wait for more women’s bar grip tanks!

Buff Chick Cinnamon Swirl Buff Whey – I have been loving mixing this protein powder into oatmeal. I have never been able to mix protein powder into oatmeal and have it taste good or have a good texture, but this works! I have used the Buff Chick Birthday Cake and Strawberry Banana as well with no issues! The powder blends in so easily, and there’s no weird texture or aftertaste. It’s such an easy way to have a ton of protein for breakfast or dessert or a snack, and it’s so easy using quick oats in the microwave. And there’s a vegan version too!

Sour Strips – These really are as good as everyone says they are. And if you haven’t heard of them before, they are really high quality sour candy strips that are each about 30 calories. They’re actually sour, the flavors taste like what they say they are, they have really fun seasonal flavors, and are super portable. These are a great intraworkout snack, especially when I’m lifting super heavy, which is most of the time. They now have a permanent home in our gym bag, and I’m so happy we ended up with so many of them when I first fell in love with them last year.

Buff Chick Supplements Review

6/23/2023 Update – Strawberry Kiwi is the most amazing flavor, and I highly highly recommend it (but I still love Icy Blue Razz too!).

I spend most of my time outside of work and testing beauty products training for powerlifting competitions (see my last competition recap here) and am very into fitness and health. I’ve been using supplements from Buff Chick since they launched and wanted to share my thoughts on everything I’ve tried so far in one post. As always, thank you so much for being here, and it would mean so much to me if you subscribe here or on Instagram @liftbakelove for new posts!

Only one of each supplement pictured but this is a small subset of my collection!

Buff Pump – This is the product that got me hooked on Buff Chuck, and it’s really amazing. It’s caffeine free, which is great for me since we workout in the evenings. It’s made such a huge difference in my workouts to help me have enough energy to get through them and give them my all. It also has helped me with motivation to go to the gym when I really don’t feel like it, because I will take the pre-workout exactly 30 minutes before we want to go and then then I feel like I need to workout to “not waste it.” Unlike other pre-workouts, this doesn’t make me feel weird, jittery, or shaky. My favorite flavors are the Watermelon and Icy Blue Razz. The Sour Lemon is fine but I don’t think I’ll get it again once I get through my current bottles. I am not a fan of the Cherry Limeade at all – it tastes like sour medicine to me and I’d much rather have the other flavors.

Buff Chick Supplements Creatine – According to the website, studies have demonstrated Creatine supplementation supports strength and power output during intense resistance training. I add this to my Gatorade Zero every day (I use the powder which is much cheaper and no plastic bottles!), and I can confirm that it has absolutely helped my ability to push through heavy lifts and high volume sets way better than I ever have been. It’s $25 for about 3 months worth, which ends up being $100 per year (or less depending on if you can grab it with a 10% off code or other sale). The Icy Blue Razz flavor is also great if you want to drink it by itself and don’t mind paying extra for the flavored version. I actually prefer mixing the unflavored into other things so I’m going to stick with that one for the cost savings, but I’m definitely not sad I have the Icy Blue Razz.

Buff Reds and Buff Greens – I feel so much better after I drink either of these (or both together), and I wish I remembered to drink them more often. They help with my soreness after hard workouts and give me more energy without any caffeine. I’m a big fan of strawberry lemonade and love how the reds taste. I don’t like the taste of the greens as much but it’s still good and totally masks any vegetable flavor. Both mix into water super easily without any grittiness and mix well with each other or with the creatine.

Buff Whey – I am very picky when it comes to protein powder and have generally hated every one I’ve tried for being too powdery, too sweet, not great macros, or some other reasons. But I love Buff Whey – I have the Strawberry Banana and Birthday Cake flavors and am super happy with both of them. I actually make the same smoothie with them – a cup of protein milk, half of a frozen banana, and one scoop of protein powder. The powder blends in so easily, and there’s no weird texture or aftertaste. The smoothie is almost 40 grams of protein for less than 250 calories which are incredible macros, especially given I try to hit around 125g of protein a day. I’m likely going to pick up the Fudge Brownie in their next sale and already have Iced Cappuccino on deck to try once I get through more of the ones I have already.

Fitness Faves: What I’ve Been Loving That’s Not Beauty

I wanted to take a quick break from beauty to talk about some of things I’ve been loving in the fitness and lifestyle realm. My other main hobby than beauty is fitness, so I like to share some of that here once in awhile. I’m hoping to do a bit more once we’re back in the gym but please let me know in the comments what you’d like to see!

We’ve been doing the Team Plans Full Body Fit Guides given that we still don’t feel comfortable being back in the gym yet. We’ve gone to the gym in our apartment building a couple of times (as you’ll see in some of these photos) because they only allow one household at a time, with masks on, but we try to workout in our living room as much as possible. The plan is 3 HIIT style workouts a week using 15 pound and 5 pound dumbbells and optional bands (which I also have from the Team Plans and one from Buffbunny). I truly believe that I get almost as good as gym results at home for less than 2 hours a week with these workouts. I used to be in the gym constantly, and it’s amazing to me how effective such short workouts can be. The guides are also super affordable relative to workout programs I’ve been on before (and you can do the free videos on YouTube instead). They are also just really fun, and I am so thankful for these workouts for helping me continue to be an athlete over the last year.

I’ve never been able to handle pre-workout before, but the Buff Chick Supplements Buff Pump is amazing. It’s caffeine free, which is great for me since we workout in the evenings. It’s made such a huge difference in my workouts to help me have enough energy to get through them and give them my all. It also has helped me with motivation to do them, because I will take the pre-workout and then feel like I need to workout after to “not waste it.” Then, I’ll usually have enough energy to add on a yoga session or one of Abby’s mobility flows, which I’ve really gotten a lot out of. Unlike other pre-workouts, this doesn’t make me feel weird, jittery, or shaky. My favorite flavor is the Watermelon Pump, but the Sour Lemon and Cherry Limeade are also really good, and I’m already on my second container of the Sour Lemon. I can’t wait to see what Buff Chick comes out with next!

Wearing the Buffbunny Canceled Sports Bra in Shaded

Anyone who knows me has heard about my Buffbunny obsession. I have a ton of leggings, shorts, sports bras, tanks, crops, and even a jacket. I love every single thing I’ve gotten and have found the quality to be just as good or even better than Lululemon for much more reasonable prices. Pieces I’ve worn and washed over and over again still look brand new, and I find myself reaching for them over all my others for my workouts or just to wear during the day. My favorites are the Limitless Leggings, Rosa Pocket Leggings, Limitless Flow Tops, Jade Mesh Bra, Arnold Bomber Jacket, Canceled Sports Bra, Material Girl Ribbed Biker Short, and Spin Tank. I picked up a few things yesterday for their Marble and Ecoline launches – let me know if you’d like to read specific reviews about any of the pieces!

I never thought I’d get so excited about a “protein snack”, but the Quest Nutrition Tortilla Style Protein Chips have proven me wrong. They are almost the same as Doritos, but with almost 20g of protein for the same number of calories for a serving. I’ve been snacking a lot more these days since we’re still mostly just home all day, every day. These have been a great way for me to eat chips and get my protein in too. I was really surprised at the texture and taste of these, for both the Nacho Cheese and Ranch flavors. If I had to choose one, I’d definitely choose ranch.

This is going to sound silly, but as I’ve written about before, I really struggle to drink enough water. I’ve purchased so many different water bottles and tumblers to help me drink more water. My amazing friend Alice suggested I get the Tronco 20oz Glass Tumbler – it holds a lot more water than any of the glasses we have, the protective sleeve helps keep water cold and comes in so many colors, and it comes with a lid and straw. I have really loved it and use it every day as my main drinking glass, I’ve starting drinking more than triple the water because I love it so much. It’s also so much easier to clean than a traditional water bottle, especially because it’s dishwasher safe. For less than $20, this has been one of my best investments of 2020.
